Description
Challenges with sensory processing are often overlooked as a contributing factor with self-regulation. Implementing behavior management approaches that disregard sensory processing can result in limited progress for an individual challenged with unexpected behavior. Leaving an individual in a reoccurring state of dysregulation could lead to lifelong struggles in learning, social, emotional, and executive functioning. Efforts to support an individual reaching adulthood prepared with a repertoire of coping strategies and tools begins during early development years, continues throughout development, and can result in successfully navigating all aspects of adult life. Providing a safe environment, fostering inclusion, teaching self-awareness, and providing strategies and tools have proven to result in positive social and emotional outcomes. Attending this session will provide specific information about the less commonly known contributing condition of sensory processing, the course of action to access accurate assessments, and specific research supported strategies empowering individuals to self-regulate. Get ready for a hands-on presentation that provides “how to” apply strategies and tools often resulting in meaningful changes in all areas of life; home, school, and community. This presentation is not a stand and deliver presentation; get ready for learning, exploration, and POPCORN!
