Date & Time

Description
Close your eyes. Picture your classroom. Do you see the boy incessantly bouncing in his chair? How about the girl absent-mindedly doodling on her textbook? Over in the corner, can you picture the student who refuses to wear jeans or t-shirts with tags? Can you hear the one standing at your desk who will not stop pelting you with questions? What about the student who just broke into tears and started yelling at a classmate? Are these issues to resolve or deficiencies to cure? Or... perhaps... could they instead be assets awaiting activation??? In this workshop, we will explore implications of Dabrowski's research on overexcitabilities, domains of heightened intensity or sensitivity, particularly in gifted students. We will learn characteristics of each domain of self as impacted by overexcitabilities, including psychomotor, sensorial, intellectual, imaginative, and emotional. We will analyze the applications of this cognitive and social emotional phenomenon on instructional strategies for whole child education. And we might just reveal a little something about ourselves along the way. Come. Join the awakening!
