Local studies indicate there are more gang members in Houston than anywhere else in the State of Texas. The average age of recruitment is between the ages of 12-15 with 14 being the peak age for membership. There are more than 4,600 gangs identified in Texas with an estimated 20,600 members in Houston alone. It is imperative that educators learn more about the risk factors involved with membership, warning signs of influence on campus, and intervention methods to help redirect these students. In this workshop, participants will take an inside look at the secret culture of juvenile street gangs. We will learn about recruitment methods, initiations, strategies for success and disassociation methods. Put your seatbelt on!
